In 1972 William S. Shepard founded W.S. Shepard Sweeping Company, one of the first companies of its kind in New England. During his 18 years of ownership, Bill introduced the need for sweeping services to major grocer and retail chains, while growing and developing his superb reputation. In 1990, Bill sold W.S Shepard to longtime friend Francis W. Cordeiro, giving him an opportunity of a lifetime. With Bill's trust and confidence and Frank's young vigor and fresh ideas, he knew Frank would take the company to a new plateau and preserve its well-known reputation.
In August of 2006, after 2 years of searching and with the same trust and confidence Bill had, Frank passed on the torch to Donald G. Giumetti. At that time the name was changed from W.S. Shepard to Shepard Group, Inc. As the current owner, Don's goal has been to slowly grow the company, preserve its renowned name and aspire to reach the American dream of success. The main objective is to continue to serve all clients large and small and enhance the services offered.
Before acquiring Shepard, Don spend 20 years in the construction industry in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Like Bill Shepard, who had a career in the sand and gravel industry before starting W.S Shepard, Don also started his career in the sand and gravel/ready mix concrete industry. After running the operations and sales for three of Boston Sand and Gravel's subsidiary companies for 12 years, Don moved into the General Contracting work as Vice President of Bufftree Building Company in New Bedford, MA. Don then spent 5 years at Lee Kennedy Company in Boston where he oversaw the company's development and growth throughout the New England region.
